A Blast From the PAST!
There have been times when my family and I have taken field trips and I felt as if I'd stepped back in time. Pictured to the left is the historical reinactment of 1860's period dance, performed by the 1860's Civilian Society of Georgia. This wonderful reinactment took place in December, demonstrating an 1860 period Christmas Celebration, and was hosted at the beautiful location of Traveler's Rest Historical site, located in Toccoa, Georgia.

FOXFIRE Museum & Heritage Center
We recently paid a visit to the Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center tucked away on a mountainside in Mountain City, in the northeastern tip of Georgia—beautiful Rabun County. During their April heritage days, volunteers dress up in period dress and demonstrate how life was once lived in Early America. Above a young boy climbs a beautiful dogwood tree, and to the left another young boy demonstrates how to hold the stilts. THE FOXFIRE APPROACH

About Foxfire
What is foxfire? The term "foxfire" is a name applied to a couple of species of bioluminescent fungi that grow on rotting wood in damp forests during the warmer months. These fungi typically produces a dim blue-green glow that can be seen only in almost complete darkness. "Foxfire" is also the name an English class picked, in 1966, for a student-produced magazine they decided to create, containing stories and interviews gathered from elders in their rural Southern Appalachian community. "Foxfire" is also the name of a series of books which are anthology collections of material from The Foxfire Magazine (as mentioned). The movie "Foxfire" starring Jessica Tandy and John Denver was based on the activities of the period in which "Foxfire" was formed.
In the above picture (right), my youngest daughter, "G" gets a demonstration in how to operate a dancing marionette. On the left, a hot pot of potluck supper, and a whole chicken are cooking on an open fire. They even had homemade bisquits, and squash cooking in pots sitting amongst the HOT coals. AND, it was DELICIOUS!
